WESTMINSTER RESIDENCE

A modern take on tradition

Canada - Toronto

Situated in Toronto's High Park-Swansea neighborhood, Westminster Residence is a contemporary reinterpretation of the traditional Edwardian gabled houses. The design features three dark-coloured components: a lower volume covered in elongated black bricks in Roman style, a heavy oversized triangular roof adorned with slate-coloured terracotta tiles, and two tall rectilinear dormers on the east and west sides.

This residence spans 325 square meters across two floors, comprising a living room, dining room, kitchen, four bedrooms, four bathrooms, and various common and storage areas. The striking interiors showcase a blend of materials in both light and dark tones, alternating between spacious, well-lit areas. Soft furnishings and fabrics add warmth to the ambiance. In the kitchen, the CEA taps from the GIOTTO PLUS collection, finished in satin, create a remarkable chromatic contrast against the dark walls and stained walnut furnishings, complemented by a travertine countertop.

Travertine is also used for wall tiles and furniture in the bathroom area, accentuated by the sophisticated tones of CEA taps finished in Black Diamond satin. Batay-Csorba Architects has skillfully balanced contextual sensitivity and bold contemporary design in the Westminster Residence by thoughtfully incorporating art and meticulously designed details.
